I'm Pissed Off

and I don't get pissed off easily.

On my way home today, I heard Kentucky Senate President David Williams interviewed on our local NPR station. I wish I could find the exact quote, and I'll look tomorrow, but basically he said that he approved of Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin and was impressed that her 17 year old daughter decided to have her baby. He said he knows that many Democrats think she should've had an abortion, but he thinks it was a good decision to keep the baby.

EXCUSE ME!?

As a Democrat and Pro-choice woman, I take serious offense to that remark. I am pro-choice but in no way does that mean that I think choosing to have an abortion is the right decision. I do, however, think that in certain cases, women need to have a safe, clean place to go and it is no business of the governments.

Furthermore, if you're pro-life, be damn well pro-life. Anti-death penalty, anti-war, anti-taking of life in any form, under any circumstance.

If this woman, who also opposes birth control in every form, opposes putting polar bears on the endangered species list, supports the banning of books, and believes in abstinence only education becomes president... I just don't know... I just don't know...

Oh, I know.

BUT!!!

People are SO fed up with the republicans (at least in my neck of the woods, they are) and NPR has done enough interviews that have ridiculous comments and such, that he will not get away with it. No educated person will think that and will think that this guy is a complete idiot.

But it still sucks that this guy is in office and making uneducated blanket statements.

I said this on Roy's blog and I'll say it again. Palin scares me. And like we talked about yesterday, I will move to another country if she is VP. Book banning, no birth control (which would have worked wonders for her daughter by the way) are things that you wouldn't imagine being imposed on a society this day in age. To think that it could possible happen again truely scares the crap out of me.

Oh, thank heavens. Digging through the blogs around here, I find so many Palin-is-a-great-choice-pro-family-country-first blahblahblah I thought I was going to scream.

The Republicans do not have a corner on life, on family, on country.

They just want to tell you how it is and how you should behave.

Let's hope enough of us wake up in time to keep the country from further harm.

I couldn't agree with you more!

Did you see this awesome skit on SNL? It is hysterical.

by way of explanation...

I was just trying to show Patrick the SNL skit I linked earlier, and the link is now gone! I swear it was there earlier. I hope you got to see it before it was taken off Youtube. If not, google "snl palin clinton" and you'll get a few links with descriptions of the skit and even a little excerpt on Fox. I'm sure the whole thing will eventually be posted again on Youtube (or possibly NBC?) and it's totally worth tracking it down! It was a brilliant commentary on Palin's lack of suitability (understatement of the year here) for public office of any sort...

Hope you and your brood are well!

In fear the Republicans will storm the voting booths and - gasp! - McCain/Palin wins, I have already begun looking at job opportunities in Canada and researching what it takes to become a legal resident of Canada. I'm truly, truly frightened and sicked at the thought of what will happen if Mc/P is elected... Six months into office, McCain has a severe stroke and is rendered unable to continue his duties as president; Palin is sworn in, and immediately begins an agenda of limiting or outright banning abortions and birth control, gives oil companies carte blanche reign in Alaska (resulting in massive decimation of wild life), starts restricting access of "unsavory" literature in public libraries, and presses the military to continue (and increase) its presence in the Middle East. Then, when the gal is ready for a break from her hard duties as Prez, she'll order up a BlackHawk helicopter so she can head off to Alaska for some aerial moose hunting. Yeah, I know, I've stretched the truth a bit... But in my opinion, it's not too far off the mark. This woman will be the absolute ruin of this country if Mc/P is elected!
